Heroes and villains take over Thuringowa library

Powerful superheroes and wicked villains will take over Thuringowa Library on Thursday for the Summer Reading Club members’ party.

The theme of this year’s program is Heroes and Villains with characters of MagnetiCon attending the party in costume to entertain the kids.

Children who have registered for the program and read at least five books are invited.

The free national holiday program targets children aged 0-16 years and is packed full of activities, stories and prizes over the summer.

This year 1,550 children registered in Townsville, who collectively read more than 15,000 books.

“The Summer Reading Club is a fun way to get children interested in reading and we always get a terrific response from families,” Community and Cultural Development Committee member Cr Russ Cook said.

“The members’ party is a fun way to congratulate participants and celebrate the world of books.”

The party will be a popcorn and movie night screening The Incredibles and will begin at 6pm.

The program is a partnership between Townsville City Council, State Library of Queensland, Australian Library and Information Association, and is sponsored by Maidment.
