Search is on to find city's friendliest neighbour

Are you one of Townsville’s friendliest neighbours? Townsville City Council is searching for the city’s best neighbours and will reward 10 winners with a $100 barbecue prize pack.

The competition coincides with the national Neighbour Day, an annual celebration of community which encourages people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood.

To be eligible to win you must be willing to host a Neighbour Day barbecue with two or more of your neighbours and come along to a presentation to collect your prize.

The winners will be announced at the Neighbour Day Friendliest Neighbour event on Friday, March 3 at Townsville Bulletin Square with Neighbour Day Ambassadors Relationships Australia and other organisations that share a connection to Neighbour Day.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said council had already received more than 40 entries into the competition with neighbours from all over Townsville sharing wonderful stories about the great relationships they shared with their neighbours.

“This is a great initiative to encourage residents to connect with each other, which can be invaluable in emergencies such as natural disasters,” Cr Doyle said.

“These days it’s common for people to not even know their neighbours’ names.

“Getting people to know your neighbours can really strengthen your community.”

The prize packs contain meat, salad, paper plates, bread rolls, soft drinks and more.
