Bus Hub design tender awarded

Detailed designs of Townsville’s new bus hub will start soon after the council awarded the tender worth $294,778 to local consultancy firm Premise at today’s full council meeting.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said community consultation will continue during the design process that will involve every interested group.

“Community consultation has been at the forefront of our efforts surrounding the bus hub the entire time and the design phase will be no different,” Cr Hill said.

“The consultation will involve every interested person and group and they will be invited to attend special information sessions during the design.

“We want the public to be informed of what is happening with the bus hub as it is going to play a pivotal role in the future of our city.

“The location we decided for the facility is one that is inside the CBD, it is close to the stadium, it is close to the event and entertainment precinct, and close to where many people work.”

Demolition of the building commenced earlier this month to make way for the facility, and the demolition is scheduled for completion by mid-September.

A petition to have the bus hub relocated was presented at the full council meeting that included 268 signatures.

“Council selected the site that was going to work best for the entire city and the community has been involved and they have been kept informed during the entire process.”
