Date published: 4 April 2017

Townsville City Council’s Get Active 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar is now in full swing will a month of activities for all ages.

The first big event in April, Ride to Riverway last Sunday, was a big success with more than 200 people coming to Riverway on their bikes from right across the city.

This week residents have a choice of tai chi today from 5.30pm at Riverside Gardens Community Centre and Kendo martial arts at the Upper Ross PCYC this Friday, April 7 from 7-9pm.

Those keen to give running a try, can participate in the Riverway Park Run from 7am at Tony Ireland Stadium this Saturday, April 8.

Other events this month include chair yoga for seniors, Heart Foundation Walking, the North Shore Park Run, Yoga Express, group fitness sessions, Zumba Gold and wheelchair basketball among many others.

All events are supported by the Townsville City Council and are offered free for residents for the month of April.

Community Health and Environment Committee chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said it was all about getting people more active and enjoying the facilities on offer.

“Whether you’re trying an activity for the first time, or simply rediscovering the extensive network of bike paths, parks and walking tracks around our beautiful city, April is a great month to enjoy the slightly cooler weather and get active,” Cr Greaney said.

“Our Get Active calendar has something for every age and for every day, so I encourage everyone to get out there and give it a go.”
