Heatley family fun day to build community spirit

Date published: 11 October 2016

Heatley residents will be treated to a free family fun day this week.

Townsville City Council is one of a number of supporters of the event on Friday, October 14 organised by a large number of community organisations to coincide with Queensland Mental Health Week (October 9-15).

Free activities will include jumping castles, face painting, craft and sporting activities, a Pokémon Recharge Station and the screening of the Disney Pixar family flick Inside Out.

There will also be free fruit on offer and food and drinks will be available to purchase.

Local councillor Kurt Rehbein said the event was an opportunity to build community spirit and give back to the residents of the area.

“I have spoken to residents over the past few months and many had requested a community event such as this,” Cr Rehbein said.

“I think this is a great way to get to know your neighbours, a way to establish networks within the community and have a relaxing night out with family and friends.

“It’s also great that a number of community organisations and sponsors have come together to show their support for people with mental illness.”

The event will run from 4pm-8.30pm at Heatley Park next to the Long Tan Memorial Pool.

The movie will be shown on the big screen from 6.30pm. Bring your own chairs or blankets.

There is also a chance to win an iPad Mini thanks to Telstra Stores Townsville.
