Date published: 1 November 2016
Winners of council’s National Water Week Billboard Competition have been announced.
Entries came from a number of local schools, with students getting very creative with their messaging around conserving water in our city.
The five winning entries are from:
- Annandale Primary
- St Joseph’s The Strand
- Vincent State School
- St Claire’s (one photographic entry and one illustrated)
Each winning school will receive $500 prize money.
The artworks have been turned into “skins” and will be installed on billboards across the city this week.
Locations are:
- Abbott Street, Oonoonba
- Hervey Range Road, Bohle Plains
- Shaw Road
- Bruce Highway, Deeragun
- Cnr Stuart Drive & Mervyn Crossman Drive, Annandale
Townsville Water and Waste Committee chair Cr Paul Jacob was one of the judges of the competition.
“This has been a terrific way to get our youngest residents thinking about water conservation and the role that they play in limiting water use around the home and in the community,” Cr Jacob said.
“We had some very creative and colourful entries – it was a tough job being one of the judges!”
National Water Week was October 16-22.
The billboards will be on display until the end of the year.
