The Strand Water Park was shut down temporarily on Monday following discovery of a blade - believed to have come from a pencil sharpener - on the landing leading to the slides.

A member of the public handed the object, measuring 1.5cm x 0.5cm to lifeguards around 12.10pm.

Water to the park was immediately shut off while a full inspection of the equipment, filter system and surrounds was completed by life guards and council staff.

Police were notified and carried out an additional inspection.

The Water Park was reopened at 1.20pm.

Council is reviewing CCTV vision of the park and will boost security in the area with an additional mobile camera.
