Hundreds of residents are expected to participate in this year’s popular Ride the River event.

The ride on April 10 is a highlight of council’s 30 Ways in 30 Days month-long activity calendar, encouraging residents to get healthy and active and try new activities on offer.

Registrations for Ride the River close on Sunday, April 3.

Community and Environment acting director Susan Coker said Ride the River was a great opportunity for residents to explore the city’s bikeways and enjoy being active with friends and family.

“This annual event along the Ross River has attracted a great turnout in past years and we’re sure the 2016 event will be bigger and better than ever,” Ms Coker said.

Caroline (Caro) Tahana and her family will participate in the event and are excited to be involved.

“Ride the River is such a great way for residents to get active together and discover the network of bike paths on offer along the picturesque Ross River,” Ms Tahana said.

“We live in beautiful surroundings here in Townsville and taking a bike ride is a good way to explore our city while getting fit.

“I encourage everyone to get on their bikes and join us.”

Ride the River will be held on Sunday 10 April at Sheriff Park at 7am. All participants will be treated to a free fruit snack.
