Date published: 6 July 2016

Protecting our city’s natural assets as well as planning for our environmental future has remained a priority in the 2016/17 City Budget.

A total of $5.8 million has been allocated to manage Townsville’s natural resources.

Community Health and Environment Committee chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said Townsville was renowned for its environmental credentials that delivered great returns for the whole community.

“Over the years Council has developed a reputation for being a leader, particularly in the area of energy conservation and sustainability and it’s important we not just maintain that, but continue to grow it,” Cr Greaney said.

“Much of our work centres on programs and events that engage the community, building awareness and promoting the sustainability message.”
