Management of Townsville’s expansive roads, drains, parks and open space networks is a headline area of funding in the 2016/17 City Budget.

The Budget allocates $114.7 million for the management, including maintenance, of public infrastructure across the city.

Priority areas include road repairs, traffic lights and verges, open space management including the city’s 330 parks, Jezzine, The Strand and Riverway, drains and stormwater, and beaches and boat ramps.

Mayor Cr Jenny Hill said the care and maintenance of public areas was fundamental to council’s service delivery for the community.

“The maintenance and attention to detail in looking after our public assets is important for the city’s image,” Cr Hill said.

“We are in a tight budget year but we are maintaining high levels of funding for maintenance and other core service areas.”
