CityLibraries program offers path to employment
Date published: 27 January 2016
CityLibraries Townsville is offering a free program to assist residents looking for work.
The Path To Employment program, supported by the State Library of Queensland, will run for six weeks, one day per week, beginning February.
Sessions will cover practical aspects of job hunting including resume writing, addressing selection criteria and provide interview tips.
Community and Culture Committee chair Cr Sue Blom said the path to employment could be a long and difficult one without assistance.
“This program aims to provide job seekers with the important information needed to gain employment as well as promote resilience during unemployment,” Cr Blom said.
“This is a chance for residents to consider training or study to upskill or reskill and an opportunity to use volunteering as a path to employment.”
The sessions will also look at physical and mental health issues.
The program has the support of the Mental Illness Fellowship, Northern Australia Primary Health, Experience Works, James Cook University, TAFE, Volunteering NQ, Careers Australia and local employers.
To register your interest in the program, email library@townsville.qld.gov.au
The information session will be held this Friday, January 29 at 9.30am at Thuringowa Library.
Places are limited to 50.
