Christmas appeal fundraising winners announced

The winners of this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal challenges have been announced.

Winner of the Corporate Challenge was 1300SMILES which collected 168 gifts and 13.8kg of food for the appeal.

The prize is a $2,500 advertising package with 4TOFM.

Winner of the Daycare Centre Challenge is JCU Unicare Kids who collected more than 63kg of food and 70 gifts as part of the Daycare Centre Challenge.

They have won a trike and trailer worth $230 thanks to Toyworld.

Winner of the Junior School Challenge was Townsville Grammar Junior School who collected 141.5kg of food and 15 gifts.

Their prize is an arts package thanks to Toyworld.

Winner of the Senior School Challenge was Ignatius Park College who raised 209kg of food and nine gifts.

They have won a marquee thanks to CQU.

The recipient who raised the most through raffle ticket sales is Althea Projects who were presented with a trike through a private donation.

Mayor Cr Jenny Hill thanked the businesses and schools for their dedication to the cause.

“It is with corporate and school support like this, that we can meet our goal of helping the community during the festive season,” Cr Hill said.

“This year we had a number of businesses, schools and daycare centres register for the challenges and we hope that even more will get involved next year.”

The 2016 Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal distributed 1,500 hampers to 29 community groups with assistance from Food Relief NQ and 3rd Brigade.

About 1000 gifts were also distributed to people of all ages.

Donations of food, gifts and cash are still trickling in and will help council to meet its fundraising goals. Donations are still welcome at the customer service counter at 103 Walker St throughout the year.
