Registrations for Welcoming Babies Ceremony now open

Parents of Townsville’s newest residents are being encouraged to register their little bundles of joy for the 2016 Welcoming Babies Ceremony to be held at the Riverway Arts Centre on January 31.

Registrations are now open for the two sessions at 9am and at 10.45am.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the Welcoming Babies Ceremony had become a lovely community tradition.

"Welcoming Babies is a special celebration for families who have recently welcomed a baby to the world and it is an exciting opportunity for new parents and family to formally welcome the newest addition to their family," Cr Hill said.

"If you have recently welcomed a new baby into your family then I would encourage you to register and come along for a great celebration with friends, family and the whole community."

Each baby welcomed will receive a welcoming certificate, a plant and a gift bag. The baby must be 13 months old or younger to be registered for this event.

In 2015 the city welcomed 98 babies at its Welcoming Babies Ceremonies.
