General Information
Changes to boating use are now in place
- Freestyle jetskiing is no longer permitted on Black Weir, in accordance with the Queensland Government Jet Ski Management Plan.
- Jet skis may be used for water skiing under general water skiing conditions.
- During rowing club regattas all vessels must give way to rowers and must comply with a six knot/no wake limit while traversing the rowing course. Permits will not be issued for watersking in the Loam Island Circuit during rowing regattas.
Please note a 6 knot speed restriction remains in place in Zones A and D
New operating hours for motorised water sports
- To minimise impacts on nearby residents new operating hours now apply for Motorised Water Sports on Blacks Weir.
- Effective Monday 01 June 2009, permits are now available for three sessions throughout the day (9am to 12pm; 12pm to 3pm; and 3pm to 6pm). The cut over time for advance bookings has also been adjusted from midnight to midday.
- Council will shortly be undertaking a review of recreational use on Black Weir.
Who requires a permit?
Due to high demand, all water ski vessels require a permit to operate on Black Weir. General boating and fishing vessels do not require a permit. The system allows you to book up to eight days in advance. (eg you can book for a following Saturday from 12midday on the Friday prior). A public notice will appear on the webpage should the river be blocked out for an event.
Vessel numbers are limited for the safety of all river users.
To ensure access for as many users as possible, only one booking is available per person/vessel during a weekend period (Saturday/Sunday). Multiple bookings are available mid week.
Any person not intending to use a booking must complete an online cancellation. Failure to cancel an unused booking online may result in a one month ban on the person/vessel involved.

Only Zone C & D will be available for general boating, fishing and skiing. Zone A & B will not be available to the general public during this time.
