Social Planning

The role of the Social Planning Unit is to assist Council to meet its responsibilities for the social well-being of the community by providing advice, assistance and project management in the areas of social research, social planning, and social policy.

This is achieved in a number of ways including:

  • Coordinating and carrying out social research projects and community consultations.
  • Compiling and providing demographic and statistical information and analysis to Council, organisations and the community.
  • Contributing to strategic planning within Council by combining social planning with physical land use planning.
  • Providing social policy advice including analysis of State and Commonwealth policies and programs.
  • Liaising with community organisations on social issues.
