Community Development
The Community Development section identifies the need for, plans the development of, and sources funding for community, sport, recreation, and arts infrastructure.
The Grants team coordinates Council’s community grants and sponsorship scheme and sources major funding for community infrastructure, programs and services.
The Community Infrastructure team project manages the planning and development of new community infrastructure.
The role of the Cultural Development team is to develop and encourage participation in a broad range of arts opportunities for the residents of Townsville.
Neighbourhood staff manage the Community Time Out Program and Community Computer Access and Training and the Vincent Family Support program.
The Social Planning team provides services in social policy and research, social impact assessment, demographic analysis and reporting, plus community engagement and consultation. They play an active role integrating social and cultural considerations with infrastructure and land use planning.
The Sport and Recreation team supports community based sport and recreation clubs and individuals. They provide professional support in planning facilities, programs and services.
The Youth Team works cooperatively with young people, community, and government to plan appropriate responses to the needs and aspirations of young people and to facilitate their participation in community life.
The Section has a whole-of-council role in:
- Identifying the need for, planning the development of, and seeking external funding for Townsville’s community, sport, recreation, and arts infrastructure.
- Coordinating the community grants and sponsorships program.
- Sourcing funding for community infrastructure, programs, and services.
- Community engagement and consultation.
- Coordinating inclusion of social and community considerations in infrastructure and land-use planning.
- Sport and recreation planning and development.
