Sport and Recreation Grants
Grants for Excellence in Sport
This program is a Council initiative designed to assist Townsville sports people to achieve excellence in their chosen sports by providing financial assistance to attend National and International competitions.
Funding Round
No set closing dates, but must apply prior to the event.
Level of Financial Assistance
- $150 for Competitions within Queensland
- $200 for Interstate competition
- $500 for Overseas competition
Examples
Townsville sports people (juniors, seniors and veterans) have been assisted to represent Queensland or Australia in a wide variety of competitions and sports from Australian Rules to Wheelchair Basketball.

Sport and Recreation Facility Assistance Program
This program is a Council initiative designed to assist Townsville sporting organisations in the provision of recreation opportunities for the community by funding the development of sport and recreation facilities.
Funding Round
- Last Friday of March of each year
- Last Friday of October of each year
Level of Financial Assistance
- $ 500 Minimum
- $10,000 Maximum
Examples
- Refurbish two playing surfaces of the Cutheringa Bowls Club,
- Irrigate competition area of Woodstock Horse Sports Club,
- Upgrade power to Townsville City Netball Association,
- Supplied shade sails to race start area, for the Townsville Motorcycle Club.
