The information below answers some of the more commonly asked questions about garbage collection and recycling.
When will my waste be collected?
Your waste will be collected once a week. Your bin must be put out to the kerbside for collection by 6:00 am on the day of collection. To find out what day your waste will be collected view our online calendar.
When will my recyclables be collected?
Your recycling bin will be collected on the same day (but not at the same time) as your waste pick-up on a fortnightly basis.

Will my bins be emptied on public holidays?
Yes, the kerbside refuse service runs 365 days a year, regardless of public holidays.
What do I do if I lose my wheelie bin?
The property owner is responsible for the security and maintenance of any council supplied wheelie bins and therefore must bear the onus to repair or replace any such wheelie bin that may be damaged, lost, or stolen.
Council can supply the replacement bins.
How do I order a new bin?
Residential waste or recycling bins can be order by phoning our Customer Service Centre on 1300 878 001 during office hours or by completing the Application - Waste/Recycling Services.
The initial issue of a waste bin and recycling bin to a residential property is free. Thereafter the residential property owner is responsible for the security of the bins and must bear the cost to repair or replace any wheelie bins that may be damaged, lost or stolen.

How do I order bin replacement parts?
The property owner is responsible for the security and maintenance of any council supplied wheelie bins and therefore must bear the onus to repair or replace any such wheelie bin that may be damaged, lost, or stolen.
If you bin needs a replacement pin, lid, wheel or axle contact the council can provide this.
- The part can be purchased from either Customer Service Centre or any of the Land or Transfer Stations and fitted yourself.
- The part can either be ordered and paid for over the phone or at a Customer Service Centre. There is an additional charge for postage or if someone from Townsville Waste needs to come out to your property and replace the part for you.

I need extra permanent collection services?
Additional waste and recycling services may be requested for a residential property by completing the Application - Waste/ Recycling Services or by emailing enquiries@townsville.qld.gov.au giving authorisation to commence additional services. Only the owner of the property can request that these services be charged to the rates.
Cancellation of additional waste and recycling residential services must be notified in writing by the property owner.
What about Commercial Waste and Recycling Services?
Waste and recycling services may be ordered for commercial properties by completing the Application - Waste/Recycling Services or by emailing enquiries@townsville.qld.gov.au or by phoning Customer Service Centre on 1300 878 001.

What happens if my bin was missed?
If you believe your bin has been missed please contact the Customer Service Centre on 1300 878 001. Generally your bin will be picked up on the same day or within one working day after you lodge your request. A fee will apply for a return service.
