Weedbuster Week is held in September/October each year and is an initiative of Biosecurity Queensland. It brings people of the community together in the battle against weeds and it aims to increase community knowledge of the damaging impacts of weeds and to help stop their spread.
Council runs several activities each year in partnership with other organisations and community groups. These activities have included weed awareness stalls at local markets, weed control activities, displays of local weeds and a Weed Swap. Each year a different set of weeds are targeted for the weed swap and include many of those species which were once commonly used in local gardens and which have now escaped into our environment.
Removing weeds
Remove the whole plant, make sure to check for tubers. Don't forget to cover your load to ensure any fruit and seed is not spread further.
