Library Membership

Membership is free to all permanent residents and ratepayers of Townsville, Cassowary Coast, Charters Towers, Mackay, Hinchinbrook, Burdekin, and Bowen councils.

Children may join with the permission of a parent or guardian.

Visitors and temporary residents should enquire at their nearest branch about temporary membership.

How To Join

Join Online

Visit any CityLibrary branch or Mobile Library:

  1. Complete a membership application card,
  2. Show proof of identity and permanent address, and
  3. Nominate a PIN for access to our online services

A membership card will then be issued to you. This card should be presented whenever you wish to borrow items.

Borrowing Allowance and Loan Period

You may borrow the following 25 items for four weeks:

  • Books,
  • Magazines,
  • CDs, and
  • DVDs (only five may be borrowed at a time).

Two extensions of the loan period are possible, unless the material is required by another borrower. Renewals can be made:

  • Using the Online Catalogue (OPAC) by using your member's login,
  • By phoning your local CityLibrary branch, or
  • In person at the front desk.

An overnight book return chute (by the front door) is available for your convenience.
