Remembrance Day Wednesday 11 November

Remembrance Day

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month holds special to significance to Australians as the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War 1 in 1918. The day commemorates the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians during the four years of warfare.

Townsville City Council will host Remembrance Day ceremonies on Wednesday 11 November at Anzac Park and the Thuringowa Drive cenotaph.

David Campbell will be the headline act for Carols by Candlelight in 2009 Sunday 13 December

Townsville Bulletin Carols by Candlelight

One of the city's biggest events of the year will be staged at Strand Park at The Strand on December 13, 2009. This is a free event featuring some of the North's best artists performing traditional and some not so traditional Christmas Carols.

Celebrate the spirit of Christmas with a host of local talent and headlining artist, David Campbell!

Stable on the Strand Saturday 19 to Wednesday 23 December

Stable on the Strand

Stable on the Strand is an interactive re-enactment of Bethlehem 2,000 years ago. Relate to the actors, be accosted by the beggars, buy wares from the markets and pat the animals. Become a Roman soldier, talk to Herod, see Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. In the Amphitheatre is a vibrant dramatic production around the Christmas theme. Celebrate Christmas with the family... heaps of activities for children and youth; free tea, coffee and Christmas cake and five nights of great entertainment for the whole family.

New Year's Eve Celebrations

See in the new year at the biggest celebration in Townsville! There'll be FIVE huge fireworks displays, including two at the Strand, two at Riverway and one at Nelly Bay.

There'll also be entertainment and activities for the whole family at Riverway from 6pm to 1am.

Talking Tapa: Pasifika Bark Cloth in Queensland showcases the diversity of Pacific Islander cultural practices, heritage and visual iconography through beaten bark cloth or tapa, which is mainly made from the paper mulberry tree inner bark.
