Construction work at the Mt St John Wastewater Treatment Plant
View of construction work at the Mt St John Wastewater Treatment Plant
In order to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population, Townsville City Council is carrying out a massive upgrade of its sewerage infrastructure.

Wastewater treatment plants will be required to meet stricter effluent disposal standards set down by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The project includes:

  • Upgrading the Mt St John Wastewater Treatment Plant into the region’s second biggest treatment facility, catering for approximately 106,000 people.
  • Decommissioning of the Deeragun, Mt Low and Bohle Wastewater Treatment Plants.
  • Minor upgrades to the Condon Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The council has contracted Baulderstone to carry out the Wastewater Upgrade Project.

For any construction-related queries about the Wastewater Upgrade Project, please call 1800 775 512.

Upgrade works will be completed by the end of 2011.

For more information, please phone the Customer Service Centre on 1300 878 001 or send an email to Townsville Water.
