  • Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month (May) Act as 1 Campaign

Now in its third year, the Act as 1 campaign continues to challenge attitudes and behaviours that allow domestic and family violence to occur by urging everyday people to take action. Act as 1 is a call to neighbours, friends, family, work colleagues and community members to take a stand and support those affected by domestic and family violence.

This year local Queensland communities are coming together to Act as 1. More than 60 community organisations, sporting clubs and businesses are supporting the campaign, showing their commitment to ensuring our local communities are safe, healthy and vibrant places for all to enjoy.

Townsville City Council Act as 1 Events

  • Welcoming Babies

Townsville City Council's Welcoming Babies Ceremony is held in January, June and October and is open to families who live in Townsville with a baby who is under 13 months at the time of the ceremony.

Advisory Committees

In 1994, Townsville City Council established a Women's Advisory Committee, following representation from women's groups and a consultation with local women. The purpose of the Committee is to raise issues of concern, provide an engagement opportunity for council and to promote the well being of women. The Terms of Reference of the Committee include issues of access and equity; information and networking; representation and advocacy.

Publications

Townsville City Council is developing a Women's Action Plan with community groups and council stakeholders. The plan will be implemented across Townsville and it will have a whole of council approach.

The Child Care Options Handbook is produced by council with the purpose of bringing families clear, up to date information about child care services across Townsville. (more)
