Advisory Committees

Following the Family Summit held in October 2006, Council made a commitment to form a Families Advisory Committee to advise Council on current and emerging issues affecting families. The inaugural Families Advisory Committee meeting was held in July 2007. Along with Councillors and council staff, membership consists of individual representatives and representatives from a broad range of community service organisations.

Publications

Townsville City Council acknowledges the significance of families in creating a strong and healthy community. The Family Charter provides a set of foundation statements which underpin the Council's role with regard to families and family life in Townsville.

The Child Care Options Handbook is produced by Council each year with the purpose of bringing families clear, up to date information about child care services across Townsville.

The Families Strategic Action Plan 2011 - 2014 sets a direction for council across a range of issues affecting families who live, work or study in the city. 

Parenting is one of the most rewarding and difficult jobs that you can do. All parents want to raise happy and healthy children and there may be times when you need support and help to do this. The Vincent Family Worker works with families at the Vincent State School, Worinda Occasional Child Care Centre and who live in the suburb of Vincent.

This program provides high quality occasional childcare services and family support via provision of information, advice and referral as required.

The aim of the Townsville Regional Schools Therapy Service is to facilitate the access and participation of children with special needs into the education system in the Townsville/Thuringowa district.

The Early Years Information Service can help you with advice and answers to those day-to-day questions that pop up when raising children. The service provides free information, support and referral services for anyone who cares for children – mothers, fathers, grandparents or carers. The services enables parents to access information about early years and parenting services available across Townsville.

The Inclusion Support Agency aims to build the capacity of eligible child care services to include children from the following groups who require additional support to access these child care services.

Townsville City Council's Welcoming Babies Ceremony is held in January, June and October and is open to families who live in Townsville with a baby who is under 13 months at the time of the ceremony.
