Advisory Committees

The Townsville City Council Disability Inclusion Advisory Committee was established in 1987 to inform council on issues of importance to people with a disability and their families, to assist council to provide better services and facilities, and to advocate to other spheres of government about the needs of people with a disability in the Townsville region. The Disability Inclusion Advisory Committee also initiates and oversees projects that are determined on an annual basis. (more)

Publications

The Townsville City Council Disability Action Plan 2007 to 2010 guides council’s work in building a strong and inclusive community. The Action Plan was developed after extensive consultation within the region, and is based on issues of concern raised during this process.

Programs

The Inclusion Support Agency aims to build the capacity of eligible child care services to include children from the following groups who require additional support to access these child care services.

The aim of the Townsville Regional Schools Therapy Service is to facilitate the access and participation of children with special needs into the education system in the Townsville/Thuringowa district.

The Home Services program provides information, advice and subsidised financial assistance (when eligible) with home maintenance, modifications and repairs to the home - to keep them in a safe, healthy, and secure condition. Assistance is provided to eligible frail elderly people and people with a disability (and their carers) who wish to remain living in their homes.

The Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme (PTSS) encourages people who receive a pension to participate in community activities and to assist their access and mobility through the provision of a subsidy towards the costs of public transport.
