Arts and Culture Advisory Committee
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee will work with Council and the community throughout Townsville.
The role of Committee members is to:
- Heighten awareness of the importance of supporting Arts and Culture within Council and the community,
- Facilitate strong, robust communication between Council and local stakeholders on the planning and provision of services and facilities for Arts and Culture,
- Engender greater community ownership and cooperation in the development of Council’s cultural and artistic vision for the city,
- Ensure representation of the diversity of needs and issues relating to Arts and Culture,
- Advise Council on strategic planning, marketing and evaluation of arts and cultural development in the new city, and
- Advocate for practitioners and consumers and their needs at state and commonwealth level.
The responsibility of the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee is to:
- Assist in the development of a cultural policy/plan for the new city,
- Provide timely and qualified advice to Council on matters relevant to arts and culture,
- Identify community priorities and concerns in the area of arts and culture,
- Have input into the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies such as:
- The facilitation of collaborative partnerships between local arts/cultural groups and other organisations,
- Increasing the sustainability of local arts/cultural groups and arts practitioners, and
- The promotion of cultural achievements in our community.
- To connect with other Advisory Committees of the Lifestyle and Community Development Committee and of Council to ensure that the needs of practitioners of arts and culture are represented across all other topic areas and to ensure that all other topic areas are represented within the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, and
- To develop an Action Plan that will provide direction for all of Council to effectively address the needs of arts and culture practitioners.
Committee members shall:
- Represent the needs of arts and culture practitioners in the Townsville community in at least one key area of practice,
- If a member organisation, represent the scope of issues and needs addressed by that organisation in regards to arts and culture,
- Provide feedback from the Committee to the community, and/or the organisation being represented, regarding issues associated with arts and culture, and
- Attend meetings regularly, and if representing an organisation and unable to attend, appoint a delegate to attend in their absence.
The Advisory Committee will meet a minimum of four times per year and members shall serve a maximum of two consecutive years.
