Off-Leash Areas
Council understands the importance of exercising and socialising your dog and has provided a number of designated "off-leash" areas across Townsville where responsible dog owners can safely exercise their dogs.
Dog off-leash park etiquette:
- Remove your dog if it becomes aggressive or bothers other dogs.
- Always clean up after your pet and place in rubbish bins provided.
- Fill in any hole that your dog digs.
- Dogs should be under effective control or voice control at all times.
- Dogs must be leashed at all times prior to entering and upon leaving the dog park.
Even in dog off-leash areas, it is important to stop your dog from causing a nuisance. At no time should your dog impede other people's enjoyment.

Apex Park, Rasmussen
Location: Main entrance is across from 1255 Riverway Drive, Rasmussen
This area is fenced on the park side and is unfenced on the river side, allowing open access to the Ross River for dog swimming.

Benwell Road Park, South Townsville
Location: Beach side between Archer and Boundary Streets, 49 Benwell Road, South Townsville
This area is a free-run beach with no fencing, spanning approx. 520m of beach foreshore.
Ocean access is available for dogs to swim, however crocodile caution is strongly advised.
Area is tidally influenced and space for dog activities is best at low tide. Please be mindful of others users of the beach, as this site is also a popular fishing location.
This site is owned by the Port of Townsville and Townsville City Council is not responsible for the infrastructure at this facility.
Cambridge Park, Vincent
Location: 85-99 Cambridge Street, Vincent
Fully fenced off-leash area for all dogs. This facility is supported by seating, shade trees, a shade sail, lighting and a dog agility course.

Location: 29-35 Kepler Street, Wulguru
Two fully fenced spaces including a general dog off-leash area for everyone and a separate space for small dogs only. Seating is available in both areas and the main area has shade shelter and an agility course.

Gleeson’s Weir Park, Cranbrook
Location: 61 Louise Street, Cranbrook
This area is fenced on the park side and is unfenced on the river side, allowing open access to the Ross River for dog swimming.
The facility is supported by seating areas and is well shaded by large trees.
High Vista Park, Mount Louisa
Location: 468-488 Bayswater Road, Mt Louisa
Fully fenced off-leash area for all dogs.

Lou Litster Park, Hermit Park
Location: 12-18 Boundary Street, Railway Estate
Townsville’s largest free-run dog off-leash area spanning approximately 34 acres. This area has no fencing, and is a naturally vegetated creek corridor supported by a pathway network.
Access to the Ross Creek is available for dog swimming. Warning: crocodile caution is advised.
Please be mindful of other users of the park as this is a popular location for bicycle riding and creek fishing.

Mannikin Way Park, Bohle Plains
Location: 51-53 Kalynda Parade, Bohle Plains
Two fully fenced spaces including a general dog off-leash area for everyone and a separate space for small dogs only.
Seating and lighting is available in both areas and the main area has a shade shelter and an agility course.

Mindham Park, Mysterton
Location: 4 Townsend Street, Mysterton
Free-run dog off-leash area spanning approx. 6 acres of open grassed land that forms part of the drainage corridor. This facility has no fencing and is marked by a bollard boundary.

Two fully fenced spaces including a main dog off-leash area for everyone and a separate space for small dogs only. This facility is supported by adjacent parking, seating, shade sails and lighting. A dog agility course is available in the main area.

National Park, Railway Estate
Location: 64 Brooks Street, Railway Estate
Fully fenced off-leash area for all dogs. Supported by seating and a dog agility course.

Pallarenda Dog Beach, Pallarenda
Location: Between beach access areas 8 and 9, Cape Pallarenda Road Foreshore, 0 Cape Pallarenda Road, Pallarenda.
This area is a free-run beach with no fencing, spanning approx. 570m of beach foreshore. This facility is supported by off-street parking.
Ocean access is available for dogs to swim, however crocodile caution is advised.
The site adjoins a beach exercise area for horses.

Peggy Banfield Park, Bushland Beach
